Frequently asked questions

What is coaching?

We all need a little help sometimes, especially when it comes to journeys of self-discovery. Whether your goal is to be more confident, improve your leadership skills or to find a better work-life balance, it can be tough to work out how to get from identifying your goal to actually achieving it. Coaching is about helping you to clarify issues, create solutions and achieve your goals.

What’s my coaching philosophy and style?

I believe building a trusting relationship is vital for effective coaching. I work with clients to create a psychologically safe space, providing them with the time and space to think and consider what really drives them. I like to work as a thinking partner with clients, having purposeful, forward-looking conversations. I listen deeply, not only to what is said, but also to what is unsaid and share what I notice. I both support and challenge clients to enable them to do their best thinking and find their own answers to achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves.

Why did I become a coach?

I originally trained as a statistician and then went on to have a long and varied career working in pharmaceutical R&D. Once I’d experienced being coached and the value of understanding myself better, it felt like a natural progression to move to becoming a coach myself. Human behaviour fascinates me and having spent most of my career in science I am comfortable being in a position of not knowing but I am also trained to be curious and find the right questions to ask. Getting the best from the people I work with may have been what drew me to coaching initially but it is the sense of purpose that coaching gives me that made me stay with it. I learn something new from every client and consider it a privilege to share the coaching space with clients. I find witnessing a client grow and transform during the coaching process very rewarding.
